Shān Shuǐ - 山水 - Mountain and Water

Inspired by the folklore stories from China and Vietnam about how the countries were formed, the capsule collection presents a duplexity between solid and softness. Exploring textures with tonal hues of brown satin, and watercolour shades of blue, the pieces explore the stillness and movement of nature in the tales. 

The layered draping and subtle curved design lines, are reflective of the Rajang river that flows through Malaysia, where Ting’s father grew up, highlighting the importance of water in our culture. In contrast, the shapes formed through cut and silhouette are reflective of the strength of the land.

Shān Shuǐ is the beginning of an exploration into the homelands where Ting’s family originates. Born and raised in Australia and France and based in London, the brand is inspired by the duality of her cultures whilst creating contemporary, luxury pieces.

“Our legendary ancestors, the Hundred Viet, were born from the union of a Dragon King and a Fairy or Mountain’s Daughter, Âu Cơ, who swallowed a handful of fragrant soil and lost the power to return to Heaven. Her tears formed Viêt Nam’s myriad rivers and the recurring floods are the land’s way of remembering her.”
